§ 78-57. Registration—Generally.

  • (a)

    Required. Every owner of a bicycle within the City of Muskegon Heights shall list and register with the police department his name and address, the name of the manufacturer of his bicycle, its number, style and description. Such registration shall take place upon becoming the owner thereof, and shall be good for the life of the bicycle, or until transferred to another person.

    (b)

    Fee. He shall pay a registration fee as provided in section 40-21 of this Code upon registration of the bicycle, which shall be good for the life of the bicycle or until change of ownership of the bicycle. The registration fee may be changed from time to time by resolution of the city council.

    (c)

    Issuance of tag and number. Upon such registration and payment of a registration fee, a suitable metallic identification tag, upon which shall be stamped a distinguishing number, shall be furnished to the owner of each bicycle, when registered.

    (d)

    Affixing, displaying of tag. The owner shall affix and keep affixed to the bicycle for which the same is issued, such metallic tag and shall at all reasonable times upon demand of any law enforcement officer exhibit same for the purpose of identification and as proof of ownership.

    (e)

    Transferral of tag. Upon change of ownership, such identification tag may be transferred to the new owner and the license also transferred to him upon payment of a fee as provided in section 40-21 of this Code. No tag shall be transferred from one bicycle to another and no person shall attach to any bicycle a tag not issued for use thereon.

    (f)

    Replacement of tag; fee. Upon loss of any identification tag a duplicate shall be issued by the police department upon satisfactory evidence of such loss and upon payment of a fee as provided in section 40-21 of this Code.
