§ 66-2. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Billboard means a sign erected on a framework independent of a building which directs attention to a business, commodity, service or entertainment not related to uses permitted on the premises upon which the sign is located.

    Ground pole or freestanding sign means a sign supported by uprights or braces in or upon the ground surface. This sign must direct attention to a business, commodity, service or entertainment located on the premises upon which the sign is located.

    Marquee sign means a sign attached to a marquee, canopy or awning projecting from and supported by the building.

    Projecting sign means a sign which is affixed to any building or parts thereof, that projects or overhangs the building line or property line more than 12 inches.

    Roof sign means any sign erected, constructed and maintained wholly upon or over the roof of any building with the principal support on the roof structure.

    Wall or flat sign means a sign which is attached directly to or painted upon a building wall or dropped roof and which does not extend more than 12 inches therefrom nor more than three feet above the roof line, with the exposed face of the sign in a plane parallel to the building wall.
