§ 18-417. Classes.

  • Building contractors shall be divided into three classes:

    (1)

    Class 1 general contractor. Class 1 general contractor licenses shall cover the construction, alteration, modification and improvement, and the razing and demolition of types I, II, III, IV, and V buildings and structures as defined in part V of the Uniform Building Code. Such license shall also cover and include all of the special crafts and trades listed under class 3 licenses.

    (2)

    Class 2 residential contractor. Class 2 residential contractor licenses shall cover the construction, alteration, modification and improvement, and the razing and demolition of type V structures as defined in chapters 14 and 15 of the Uniform Building Code. Such license shall also cover and include all of the special crafts and trades listed under class 3 licenses. This type of contractor is limited to a maximum of two dwellings per year.

    (3)

    Class 3 subcontractor. Class 3 subcontractor licenses shall qualify a person, partnership, firm or corporation to engage in one of the following crafts and trades: Carpentry, concrete and masonry work, insulation, lathing, glazing and plastering, roofing and siding, sign installation, screens and storm sash, tile and marble, razing and demolition of type V structures as defined in chapters 14 and 15 of the Uniform Building Code, only may be permitted under this class of license. Class 3 licensees shall only engage in the specific craft or trade for which licensed, and their license shall indicate for which trade they are licensed. Class 3 licensees shall not be allowed to sublet any part of the contract to other contractors.
